Why Choose a Residential Metal Roofing Contractor?

Instead of searching “metal roofing contractors near me” and clicking on the first result, understand that not all metal roofers are residential metal roofing companies. Not all residential roofers are experienced in roof metal installation, so it is important to select experienced metal roofing professionals. If you want a new metal roof, you want a roofing contractor with a great reputation in installation for the type of roof you’re looking for. Here’s how to find and select a great metal roofing installation company. Residential Metal Roofs Classic Metal Roofs installers are experts at residential metal roof installation. Most residential roofs on homes are what is referred to as steep slope roofing. Although some products can be installed the same on both low and steep slope roofing, you don’t want to call just any roofer. You want a company experienced in residential metal roofing installation – one that has installed thousands of metal roofs. You will also want a company that of

Metal Roofing Types and Profiles

What Are the Various Metal Roofing Types or Profiles? There are many types of metal roofing for homes. Of the different types of metal roofing, not all of them are necessarily right for your home. Depending on your budget, one metal roofing system may be a better fit than another. There are a few ways to classify different metal roofing types; material, profile and finish. Let’s look at each one. Different Metal Roofing Materials for residential applications. In the northeast, the most common metal roofing material is aluminum. However, copper roofing and zinc roofing are also used, but far less frequently. Because of the cost of copper and zinc  roofing, it’s most often an accent roof rather than roofing for a whole home. Aluminum metal roofing is the only base metal that comes in many colors. Both zinc and copper roofing look different as they patina. All are strong and durable and last a lifetime. Cool Metal Roofing

There is a lot of talk bandied about these days regarding “cool roofing”. But what is it that makes a roof “cool”? Ray-Bans and a leather jacket? Not exactly. Here is some of the scoop on why some roofs do indeed keep homes cooler in hot weather than do other roofs. Thermal Mass. Roofs that have a great deal of “mass” tend to collect heat during the day and continue to radiate it into the attic at night. This is a problem with various tile products as well as with standard shingles. Metal roofing, however, quickly loses any gained heat as soon as the sun goes down or behind a cloud or even when a light breeze blows. Aluminum is the best of all roofing metals in this regard. Color. Light color roofs absorb less radiant heat. Reflective Pigment. Many dark-colored metal roofs now have reflective pigment so that good reflectiviy is achieved even in dark colors. You no longer have to have a white roof in order to enjoy reflectivity. Classic Metal Roofing Systems has used reflective pigments

Toyota Prius or a Classic Roof?

Did the headline of this post grab your attention? One of our top independent dealers told me that, in recent months, many of his Classic Metal Roof customers have owned a Toyota Prius. So many that it seems far more than coincidental. Clearly it indicates a growing number of consumers out there who are interested in making the environmentally-friendly choice in all of their major purchases, whether it is for a roof, a car, or something else. They want to make the “greenest” choice possible. I applaud them for that! But it got us to thinking … if you can’t buy both a Prius and a Classic Metal Roof, which would be the better investment? I think that is a great question! The metal roof will be far more durable and lasting, bringing you energy savings and other benefits for many more years than a person will typically own a car. That is sustainability. Our aluminum roofs have 95% recycled content. You can’t find that in any car. And, just for one more thing, a metal roof may save you on i

Aluminum Shakes Recognized

In the January 5, 2008 edition of the Chicago Daily Herald, someone posed a question to their Home and Gardens editor considering roofing options. This person wanted the look of wood shakes on their home but they were concerned about the ultimate durability of those products. In answering their question, the editor went through a very comprehensive description of wood shakes, the various types of wood and respective attributes of each. But, after going through all of that, they ended their answer with the following: For the longest lasting roof, consider installing an aluminum roof formed to simulate cedar shakes. From the ground, it looks authentic. The large panels make installation quicker than real shakes or shingles. The aluminum roof can keep your house cooler during the summer and it is fireproof so your insurance premiums may be lower. – Chicago Daily Herald Considering that Classic Metal Roofing Systems is the only manufacturer of aluminum shake products, we certainly apprecia

The Value of Metal

Metal roofing has been in the news a great deal in recent months. And it’s not necessarily for a “good” reason but certainly a noteworthy reason and something to consider. Metal roofing has been in the news because, particularly on older “public” buildings such as churches, often in very metropolitan areas, it is showing up missing. Almost invariably this problem is affecting various “exotic” and “natural” metals such as copper and stainless steel. Why is it showing up missing? Because it is being stolen for its high scrap value. While that certainly is not a good thing, it is noteworthy. What other individual product can you buy for your home that has lasting, ongoing value? Basically every other building material you put on your home becomes a liability the moment it is installed rather than an asset. Why? Because someday it will have to be removed, replaced, and disposed of in a landfill. The scrap value of metal roofing, however, makes it an ongoing asset. While we design Classic M

Changing the Position of an HOA or ARB on Metal Roofing

Over the years, we have heard of many neighborhood Homeowners Associations (HOA) and Architectural Review Boards (ARB) that have older covenants in place that prevent their residents from using metal roofing. Oftentimes, though, once homeowners learn about the beauty, durability, energy efficiency, and other benefits of today’s metal roofs, they would really like to have one but feel frustrated by restrictions placed on them by their ARB or HOA. They can get particularly frustrated if they want to make an evironmentally friendly roofing choice and also take advantage of the federal tex credit for energy efficiency. We have found that usually the best answer to this problem is having a “generic” presentation on metal roofing given to the powers that be. If you’re a homeowner in this situation, let us know because we can arrange for such a presentation to be given. Then, after the presentation, it is important to get the HOA or ARB board members out to actually see some of today’s beauti

Thinking About A New Roof?

Anyone who has ever owned a home or commercial building knows that one of the most vulnerable spots of a building is its roofing system. The roof of any building provides its first line and ultimate defense against the elements. It protects against rain, snow, ice, sun, and wind. A secure and high integrity roof system protects the other elements of a building’s construction, ensuring their long term life and functionality. Once a roof starts to break down though, due to age, damage, or poor workmanship, the entire structure can be jeopardized. And, unfortunately, once moisture enters a structure, there is a high chance of mold and other issues being not far behind. Additionally, in recent years, there has been increased focus on how a good and well designed roofing system can help to keep a building cooler during summer months. Keeping a building naturally cooler means lower cooling costs and lower energy use. In fact, our nation’s secretary of energy has recommended the use of “cool”
