Lollipop Lamb Chops

Spring is all about the Lamb, and nothing beats these delicious quick and easy lamb chops for a special event or just because you want a GREAT meal. This is one of my favorite meals. 1 rack of lamb, cut and evenly divided into 8 rib chops (Tip: By the way, Trader Joes has the best deal on New Zealand spring rack of lamb) *Disclosure: I do not own stock in Trader Joes. Serves 2 Prep time 15 minutes. Cooking time about 5-8 minutes At least 6 hours before you cook them, season liberally with salt, pepper, garlic, rosemary, thyme, and parsley. You can use fresh herbs or dried, adjusting for taste. I would use a tablespoon of freshly chopped of each if dried, a heaping teaspoon of each. Add 2 Tbs of olive oil and ½ cup of wine. (I use a good pinot noir, save the rest for the meal) Place all in a plastic bag and refrigerate. Place the bag in a bowl and rotate the bag every now and then to evenly marinate. To cook: Heat up a stainless-steel pan or cast iron (medium to high heat) and remove th...

Toyota Prius or a Classic Roof?

Did the headline of this post grab your attention? One of our top independent dealers told me that, in recent months, many of his Classic Metal Roof customers have owned a Toyota Prius. So many that it seems far more than coincidental. Clearly it indicates a growing number of consumers out there who are interested in making the environmentally-friendly choice in all of their major purchases, whether it is for a roof, a car, or something else. They want to make the “greenest” choice possible. I applaud them for that! But it got us to thinking … if you can’t buy both a Prius and a Classic Metal Roof, which would be the better investment? I think that is a great question! The metal roof will be far more durable and lasting, bringing you energy savings and other benefits for many more years than a person will typically own a car. That is sustainability. Our aluminum roofs have 95% recycled content. You can’t find that in any car. And, just for one more thing, a metal roof may save you on i...

Hail Damage and Your Roof

Was your neighborhood recently hit by a storm that included hail? If it was, your roof may have hail damage…and chances are you will soon have many roofing contractors knocking on your door. Local Roofing Professionals vs. Calculating Roofing Contractors Chasing hailstorms is big business. There is huge electronic infrastructure set up that facilitates contractors being able to locate storms, gauge their magnitude, determine the affected neighborhoods, know the size and value of the homes, work with insurance companies, and even bid the roofs sight unseen if they want to! We are pretty wary of these “storm chasers” and encourage the use of local, experienced contractors who are properly licensed and insured to work in your area. We encourage using contractors who will still “be there” if problems occur down the road and your roof requires service. Hail? Metal Roofing Comes to Your Home’s Defense Our aluminum roofs, as well as other metal roofs, have been used extensively in severe hail...

Safety Features of Your Future Steel Building

A steel building has many advantages over other construction materials, among them strength, affordability, ease of installation and the ability to move your building without demolition and subsequent construction work. None of those advantages mean much when personnel, livestock and equipment are put at risk, though. Happily, enhanced safety is yet another way in which a steel building outdoes its competition. Fire Resistance This is an important factor as far as many buyers and building designers are concerned. Gasoline burns at 495 degrees Fahrenheit (at standard atmospheric pressure); diesel at somewhere between 126 and 205 °F. Steel won’t melt until it reaches at least a 1,000 degrees F. You need non-combustible material for all your farm, ranch and residential building needs; whether housing livestock, produce, expensive machinery or workplace tools, demand the ultimate in fire resistance. Furthermore, hazardous materials housing may attract special restrictions from code enforce...

HOW DOES A CORROSION TEST WORK?

Engineers seek out corrosion testing as a way to scope out a problem before shooting with live rounds, so to speak. A corrosion test helps you understand how long a fabricated metal item will hold up under tough conditions. Those conditions include: High temperature High humidity Presence of salt (whether in coastal waters or on roads in cold-weather regions) There are plenty of reasons to conduct a corrosion test and plenty of ways to do it. Let’s investigate. WHY BOTHER WITH A CORROSION TEST? You should use corrosion testing to qualify which material (or chemical, if your heart’s already set on a specific metal) makes sense for your intended use. The real point of the test is to save yourself a buttload of trouble later. Corrosion can render your metal damaged beyond repair. Beyond bruising your ego, this failure could result in: High repair costs Safety risks Production downtime Damage to your professional reputation If you’re creating a product that’ll sustain heavy environmental a...

TIPS FOR EFFECTIVELY MANAGING SUBCONTRACTORS ON THE CONSTRUCTION SITE

Subcontractors are common on jobsites; they are resources to help you complete projects and provide specialized skills when needed. In other words, they are a flexible solution to labor.  They keep you profitable and, in return, you keep them in business. However, they can also bring risks to the jobsite if they are not managed properly. What they do (or do not do) reflects directly on your business. Pay attention to these five areas for successful subcontractor management. QUALIFY YOUR SUBCONTRACTORS Check out your subs ahead of time so you know what you are getting. Check out their previous projects; confirm required licensing and insurance before they start any work; and learn about any previous worker’s compensation claims. Screen thoroughly. Look at: Previous work experience Previous supervisory experience Safety records Business management Legal history Their processes on and off the jobsite If you use subs from previous projects be sure to requalify them by...

STEEL FRAME STRUCTURES

Most steel construction is done with a type of steel called mild steel. Mild steel is a material that is immensely strong.  Take a circular bar of steel 1 inch / 25mm in diameter. If you were to attach this bar securely to your ceiling, you could hang from it 20,000 Kg (which is 20 tons), or any one of the following: 18 Honda City Cars 2 and a half African Elephants 1 and a half London City Routemaster Double-Decker Buses We urge you to try this at home, unless you are married. This immense strength is of great advantage to buildings.  The other important feature of steel framing is its flexibility.  It can bend without cracking, which is another great advantage, as a steel building can flex when it is pushed to one side by say, wind, or an earthquake.  The third characteristic of steel is its plasticity or ductility.  This means that when subjected to great force, it will not suddenly crack like glass, but slowly bend out of shape.  This property a...

How Cold-Formed Steel Framing Can Help Prevent Mold

Mold growth can be a serious concern for owners roll forming machine for sale and tenants in older buildings — and for good reason. Mold is known to contribute to a variety of health-related issues. What’s discussed less frequently, however, is that mold growth isn’t limited to older buildings. New construction can harbor potentially harmful fungi, too. To keep future building occupants safe, it’s important to consider the possibility of mold from the beginning of your project and choose a construction material that can help guard against it, such as cold-formed steel (CFS) framing. Cause for Concern  Molds are types of fungi that release spores into the air to reproduce. When mold spores find the right conditions — dampness, oxygen, and an organic source to feed on — they grow. There are 1,000 species of mold in the United States, and mold can be found in every environment, both indoors and outside. Mold spores in the air can be inhaled and, considering Americans spend ...
