Safety Features of Your Future Steel Building

A steel building has many advantages over other construction materials, among them strength, affordability, ease of installation and the ability to move your building without demolition and subsequent construction work.

None of those advantages mean much when personnel, livestock and equipment are put at risk, though. Happily, enhanced safety is yet another way in which a steel building outdoes its competition.

Fire Resistance

This is an important factor as far as many buyers and building designers are concerned. Gasoline burns at 495 degrees Fahrenheit (at standard atmospheric pressure); diesel at somewhere between 126 and 205 °F. Steel won’t melt until it reaches at least a 1,000 degrees F.

You need non-combustible material for all your farm, ranch and residential building needs; whether housing livestock, produce, expensive machinery or workplace tools, demand the ultimate in fire resistance.

Furthermore, hazardous materials housing may attract special restrictions from code enforcement. A steel building is ideal for the safe, convenient storage of, for instance:

Chemicals

Fuels

Paints

Solvents

Light Transfer

Nobody works well in a semi-dark space, so adequate light transference is an absolute must. Making the most of natural daylight saves on utility bills, of course, so the large easy-to-operate doors of a steel building are a big plus. When artificial illumination is in use, direct lines-of-site between the light source and its subject maximizes the return on your investment.

Both our arched and straight-sided steel building designs allow for unobstructed transfer of both natural and artificial light, making maintenance, parking and activities such as off-loading pallets far safer.

Ease of Access

Professionals work on, load/unload and store large, potentially-dangerous heavy equipment. While the average homeowner experiences differences in scale, the threat of physical harm is still there from more modest machinery. Shuffling around in cramped conditions is never a good idea, and it’s never necessary with a steel building.

Adequate Space

Mistakes happen in muddled environments, so choosing the correctly sized steel building for your purposes is imperative. Tight situations and close proximity encourages accidents. Moving sideways between a thresher and a workbench, carrying a heavy component, are all recipes for disaster. Equally, in a barn or other stock shelter, being forced by inadequate space to come inadvisably close to cattle will probably result in a crushed foot, sooner or later. Buying a sufficiently roomy steel building at outset is important, and our arched barns can be extended at any time your business expansion makes it necessary.

Ongoing Advantages

A steel building offers infinite design flexibility, but that’s the only flexibility inherent in its use. Neither the building as a whole, nor any of its components parts, will bend or buckle, twist or warp in normal usage. Quality control, both in the manufacturing process and during onsite construction, is vastly superior to other materials options, meaning there’s less propensity for structural failures in the future (and there’ll be less maintenance).

Using steel also inhibits the propagation of mold and mildew; these infestations need moist, porous material on which to feed and grow, which steel doesn’t make available.

Fungus is unsightly, obviously enough, but its airborne spores are actually dangerous to health; they create and exacerbate allergies, cost sick days when employees have pre-existing pulmonary illnesses, and, in the simplest terms, nobody needs a sneezing fit when they’re backing an 18-wheeler into a barn.
